How to Make Fortune Cookies

Knowing how to make fortune cookies can be useful for passing out as wedding favors. Guests will enjoy these Oriental favorites as part of the reception event. You can learn how to make fortune cookies by following some basic steps.

Ingredients

2 lg. egg whites
1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
1/2 tsp. pure almond extract
3 tbs. vegetable oil
8 tbs. all-purpose flour
1 1/2 tsp. cornstarch
1/4 tsp. salt
8 tbs. granulated sugar
3 tsp. water
Cotton Gloves
Paper

Preheat oven to 300°F and grease ( 2 ) 9×13 in. pans. Write fortunes, or other sayings, on small pieces of paper to place inside cookies. In bowl, beat vanilla, egg whites, almond, and oil until frothy. Combine flour, sugar, salt, and cornstarch in separate bowl and add the water.

Add the dry ingredients to the liquid mixture and blend until smooth. Place level teaspoonfuls of the mix on the pan. Allow approximately 3 in. between each. Gently move the pan around to make the drops of batter spread into 4 in. circles.

Bake 14-15 min. until edges are golden brown, then gently remove with spatula and place each cookie into your hand ( 1 at a time ). Place fortune inside, then fold cookie in half. Use a muffin pan to bend edges down to make the classic fortune cookie shape. Leave finished cookies in muffin pan to retain their shape and cool. Makes approx. 10 cookies.

Now that you know how to make fortune cookies, you can personalize them to pass out as wedding favors. Instead of writing fortunes on the paper, write the name of the couple and their wedding date as keepsakes for guests. You can also use the paper as the “thank you” card.

Fortune cookies can also be dyed during the mixing process to accent the bride’s chosen colors. They can be placed at each table at the reception, or given to guests as they leave ( letting them part with good wishes, and good memories ). Knowing how to make fortune cookies is half the fun of the wedding!
